Hey there everyone...
Back in May (2017) Josie finally went fly fishing for the very first time. I built for her a TFO Finesse 1wt, 6'9". Yeah, yeah, I know... why such a small rod? Well, because I knew we would be fishing in the Cowles pond (on the upper Pecos in northern New Mexico), I just figured a 1wt would be a good first-time rod. It was, sorta. Instead, she ended up liking an older 7'6" 3wt rod that I had brought.
After a few basic casting lessons, and her watching me, she pretty much set out on her own. It was fun watching her stalk a few of the stocked rainbows that roam the pond. After about an hour, I heard some hollering and she had proudly landed her first trout on a fly rod. Of course, it was only about 4 inches... which was the perfect size for her 1wt TFO Finesse.
I took a pic of her happy, smiling, excited face as she showed her catch.
How many of us wish that we had a pic of our very first fish that we caught on a fly rod?
